How does BE advising work?
BE has its own advising department with major/minor advisors and peer advisors for those enrolled in BE. Their advising hours and info can be found here.
To access BE advising, use Google Hangouts to contact the Peer Advisors by adding bsoepa@ucsc.edu to your chats, and message them with your:
- Name
- Student ID number
- Major/program that your question is related to
- Summary of question(s)
Peer Advisors can help with enrollment, BE policies/procedures, course planning, campus resources, and more. They can also escalate your case to a Staff Advisor if necessary. Be sure to check the BE advising website for up-to-date Peer Advisor hours.
You can also visit a Staff Advisor during drop-in hours, or email BE Advising with your concerns.
What programs are part of Baskin Engineering (BE)?
BE's degree programs are listed here.
How can I find out the requirements for my degree?
BE provides curriculum charts for each of their majors that show degree requirements, class prerequisities, and has a template to fill out your classes.
Additionally, the UCSC catalog provides suggested planners for each degree. Click on your degree program, then "Requirements & Planners," and scroll all the way to the bottom to see the suggested planners. This website also includes all classes and prerequisities that can fulfill your degree requirements.
What does it mean to be a proposed major?
BE's proposed majors help students intending to complete an engineering degree access BE resources and advising. Being in a proposed degree does not necessarily mean you have to declare that specific major, but you must be a proposed BE major in order to declare a BE major.
You can change your proposed major to a BE major by filling out this form. The only exception to this is the Computer Science B.S. and B.A. majors -- students not originally admitted to UCSC as proposed Computer Science will not be able to pursue either of these majors.
